Detoxing Through Dry Brushing

If you are anything like me your legs haven't seen the sun for about 6months now. We are one month down in spring already and summer will be here before you know it. If you live on the the sunshine coast with me then you have probably been appreciating summer  weather already, 30degrees today! So its time to start prepping the body for beach, sun and surf and what better way to do that then detoxing.

You may or may not of heard of dry brushing before but I promise you that it only takes 5mins a day, just like brushing your teeth and the benefits are soooo worth it!

Your skin is the largest organ of your body and is excreting toxins on a regular basis. Because of this you need to keep the skin clear to allow the bodies impurities to be released. If your skin gets clogged your body loses its ability to detox through the skin and instead you will find toxins build up in your body and extra load placed on your other organs. Not only do you want to let the bad stuff out but you want to get the good stuff in! Bring on oxygen and other nutrients!

Some benefits of dry brushing:
  • Increases blood circulation
  • Stimulates lymphatic drainage
  • Improves skin texture
  • Helps release fatty deposits under your skin’s surface
  • Removes dead layers of skin and other impurities
  • Reduces ingrown hairs
  • Assists other organs in the detoxification process
  • Rejuvenates your cells
  • Strengthens your immune system.
  • Increases muscle tone
  • Helps prevent premature aging.
How to Dry Brush

A couple of tips to start:
  • I don't want to state the obvious but only brush on dry skin :)
  • Dry brush before you shower in the morning
  • Start lightly until your body gets used to the brush
  • Use a natural bristled brush, definitely avoid synthetic types as these are harsh on your skin.
  • Always stroke towards the heart as this stimulates better blood and lymph circulation.
  • Wash your brush regularly
  • Like a toothbrush make sure everyone in the family has their own brush
  1. Start with the soles of your feet, use swift upward strokes and brush from the feet, up the legs.
  2. Once you've brushed your feet and legs, move to your hands and work up your arms toward your heart.
  3. Then brush your back in an upward motion. I have a long handled brush so this makes it a bit easier.
  4. Then finally brush your stomach, chest and neck. Brush your stomach in a clockwise direction to follow the movement of your colon.
  5. Brush for about five minutes until your skin is a bit pink and tingly.
  6. Shower to wash off the dead skin.
  7. If you have a nice organic moisturiser or coconut oil, now is a great time to apply
How will you remind yourself to do this for 5 minutes everyday?
